Melissa Stockwell grew up with Olympic dreams—an aspiring gymnast determined to one day represent Team USA. As she reached adulthood, her passion for service took a new form: she chose to serve her country in uniform. After graduating college, she was commissioned as a U.S. Army officer, and in the wake of 9/11, deployed to Iraq. Just weeks into her tour, a roadside bomb struck her convoy, making her the first female American soldier to lose a limb in active combat.

What followed was not just a story of recovery—but of reinvention. Melissa’s journey is a testament to resilience, determination, and the fierce spirit of someone who refused to be defined by tragedy. Instead, she chose to thrive.

Now a Paralympic medalist, World Champion, Ironman, and Marathon World Record Holder, Melissa delivers a keynote unlike any other. The Power of Choice blends the timeless lessons of Stoic philosophy with her own, battle-tested life experiences to show that while we can’t always control what happens to us, we can always choose how we respond. It’s a stirring, deeply human presentation that challenges audiences to rethink adversity, expand their own sense of possibility, and embrace the power within.
